PostWeekly Community Question #2

Are major labels bad for music? That is the question. Now, major labels are mainly for pop, rap, and mainstream rock artists but there are major metal labels as well such as Metalblade Records, Century Media, Relapse, etc. Now the reason I'm asking this is because major labels and bands that sell-out kinda go together. Bands such as Linkin Park, Kreator, War of Ages, Mudvayne (even though Martinie is still the man), Destruction, and I could keep going on and on.

Now in my personal opinion major labels have good and bad things about them. On one hand, bands get exposure, better quality, and good promotion and touring. On the other hand, there's alot of pressure on these guys to have success and appeal to people as an artist. Thats why so many bands sell out. At least I think so.

What do you think? Leave a comment!
Review coming Sunday at some point.

Music is just like candy, you throw away the rappers.

I once told a girl I loved her more than music. I lied.

Well I say sorta of, I mean look at Metallica. Because of labels they had only 4 good albums Shocked , I don't personally believe that but the majority of the world believes so. (can't get enough of load, reload,s&m, and st.anger. Y'know I only hate garage inc.)

It also depends on the type of music, like def jam and rap is like unstoppable. There so unstoppable that I hate rap and I know how awesome they are Shocked

Nowadays I only hear about 1 album from pop artists and then they fade away.

As for mainstream rock, the only popular one is Linkin Park. Which I hate

Im in the majority. And it's 6:Kill em all, Ride the Lightning, MOP, And Justice for All, The Black Album, and Death Magnetic. I don't like anything after the Black Album up until Death Magnetic. I didn't think Garage Inc was that bad though. It was just a cover album after all.

Linkin Park though is a classic example. They started out with this rap-rock sound, and pulled it off better that anyone before them. They got a huge fanbase, signed to a major label, and then made albums that alienated alot of fans. I never was a huge fan, but I know that the fans of this band were pretty pissed.

I'd say both yes and no. Linkin Park used to be so awesome! Now we hear this new stuff from them, and some of us think, "What the hell happened here?" Same goes with Allstar Weekend. (Don't start attacking me!) They used to be more of a Pop Rock band. Hollywood Records takes them, and BOOM! There's a synthesizer. -_- Now don't get me wrong those songs are pretty good too...but you get what I mean..hopefully..

Now onto another topic along the same lines, Disney. They can take your favorite singers and turn them into crap. I mean, the whole NBT (Next Big Thing) contest thingy is pretty cool on their part, but it kinda makes whoever was the winner in that a popstar. I mean, pop isn't bad, but it's just too overused..

Yeah Linkin Park used to be okay, now they're awful. That new song Waiting for the End or, whatever the hell it was, was REALLY bad. Im not overly familiar with Allstar Weekend.

Anything musically related to Disney is horrific. Anything and everything. That vocal contest is bad because it's another chance for them to make more terrible music.
