PostReview:ICS Vortex-Storm Seeker

Hi guys

Alright so today I'm here to review an album, and that album is Storm Seeker by ICS Vortex. Now ICS Vortex is a solo project of the former bassist for Dimmu Borgir ICS Vortex. He is widely known in the metal world for his unique voice and dynamic range.

So, the album Storm Seeker is an album of many influences. There's some progressive in this album, there's some melodic black metal, there's some folk metal in here, and there's occasionally a hard rock edge. So is an album with all of this inside any good? The answer is hell yes.

This album doesn't neccessarily do anything playing wise that'll blow you away. This album is essentially carried by the great songwriting. The guitars have alot of that folk metal sound to them. Nothing is gonna be really heavy on here. There is some riffing to be had, but it's nothing over the top. The drums aren't really doing anything interesting, they are basically there to keep the tempo, but that is understandable since ICS Vortex isn't a drummer. The highlight of this album instrument-wise is the bass. The bass is audible throughout this album and it should be. It's constantly differentiating from the guitars, and is able to really add a whole other dynamic to this album, particularly on the title track.

The highlight of this album however are the vocals. ICS Vortex definantly deliver vocally on this album. He really shows what he can do using his extensive range. He was definantly able to put this album over the top with his vocals, and that is really something that is hard to accomplish.

Pros:Bass work is excellent
Alot of different influences
Vocals are amazing

Cons:Album is a little lengthy
Drums aren't great

So Storm Seeker gets a 9/10. If the year ended today, this would be my album of the year hands down. No album has even come close to the amount of great musicianship displayed on this album. There are 2 albums coming out in September that I think may beat this, but we'll see.

Thats it! See ya next time

Music is just like candy, you throw away the rappers.

I once told a girl I loved her more than music. I lied.
